Der Grüne Punkt (The Green Dot) is synonymous with closed-cycle economy and sustainability. The new head office in Cologne was planned and implemented according to the highest sustainability goals with equally high demands being placed on the materials used. The Green Dot stands for the collection, sorting and recycling of sales packaging – much of it made of plastic. The subsidiary Systec Plastics produces high-quality recycled material from the collected plastic waste. With this in mind, The Green Dot therefore specifically chose manufacturers whose products contain recycled material when planning the interior of the new head office. The textile floor covering, the NEWCON acoustic tile, in particular met this requirement: up to 85% of the tufted backing is made of recycled PET. The backing is free of PVC, latex and bitumen and also falls below all emis-sion requirements of relevant environmental labels. The tile’s wear layer is made of ECONYL® yarn, which is produced from recycled fishing nets and other nylon waste. Quality is not compromised and in doing so, meets key requirements of recognised sustainability certificates such as the DGNB. The acoustic tiles are exceptionally voluminous owing to the high-quality tufting technology, requiring the use of 16 needles per inch compared to only ten needles per inch used by conventional machines. The result is a high level of walking comfort and an acoustic sense of well-being in the premises. The Green Dot also deliberately chose a manufacturer with a sustainable take-back concept: OBJECT CARPET takes back the tiles at the end of their life cycle and recycles them.
